Our Wetland

In rivers, typical projects include designing soft-engineering methods of carrying out river bank repairs that have become necessary due to erosion. Over the last 50 years or so rivers have also been dredged, become over-wide and have lost marginal habitat. Our works range from installation of a riffle, or a stretch of bank-side re-profiling to developing a combined project to benefit hundreds of metres of marginal habitat, raising bed-levels, removing flood banks and enhancing associated floodplain meadows.

Water quality in ponds and lakes is an increasing issue with rising nutrient levels. We have carried out a variety of projects aimed at developing reed and filter beds to intercept harmful sediments and nutrients.

We have considerable complementary experience in designing and building wooden structures, for example sluice gates & hatches, to control water levels and flows, and also fishing platforms to gain access over wide river margins.

Management of wetlands and rivers usually requires large plant, such as long-reach excavators and tracked dumpers. It is important to Five Rivers to use high quality machinery and appropriately experienced & certificated operators. We have painstakingly established good relationships with a small number of plant firms. For each specific task, we can select the most suitable combination of man and machine.
